12 July 2010 ( A WORLD FIRST)
Movement Against Drugs Outpatient Step Work Program

We are very excited to LAUNCH our new OUTPATIENT PROGRAM.
MAD has put together various modules based on the 12 STEPS. Already we are having great success and the response and healing is PHENOMINAL.
We realized that not all people are able to afford the costs of long term rehabilitation, so we have decided to bring the rehab to YOU.
Basically people will then follow the rehab program but are based at home.
All assignments and step work is marked, evaluated and assessed via correspondence.
A 24/7 phone line dedicated to helping those in need.
A network of people who have done the modules and are willing to help those starting up
Skype to Skype counselling.
A national network of counsellors, support groupsFor any more information on this MODERN, AFFORDABLE and UNIQUE form of rehabilitation, please contact us.

Advice from recovering drug addicts in a rehab

Well to tell you the truth. I wanted to be cool. My addiction got so bad, I went to prison a couple of times and lost a boyfriend and recently my brother. In the end it is going to be prison or death, not worth being cool (Tracey)
One thing I can tell you , is that it seems leka and cool in the beginning and then before you know it, you will be down in the gutters with nowhere to go and no one to turn to. (Keamo)

I started drugs at age 11. I thought it was so cool until I got addicted. I almost lost my whole family and my girlfriend. I started stealing a lot until they caught me. I never ever used to steal. I am clean now and going to stay clean. Don’t make the same mistakes as me. I am 21 now and have lost 10 years of my life (Alberto)

(Rudi)

Drugs .. It was the worst mistake that I have ever made in my life. I thought it was the coolest thing ever. And yes it was fun in the beginning. To much fun and I did not care about the dangers. Only now that I sit in rehab at the age of 22 and realized that I have ruined my life and the life of my family. Its not so cool and its definitely not fun anymore. Drug life is a life of hell.

Just be who you are. Don’t try to impress anybody because you will loose in the end (Tracey)

Choose your friends correctly coz they will bring you down with them. Its not always nice to listen to your parents and teachers. But they went through the trials already. Its nice in the beginning and then you get stuck. Lose everything, your soul, family and life. You don’t control it, it controls you. Always ask for help before it is too late. Addiction does lead to three things, jail, institutions and death. Addiction has no favourites , it can catch the best sportsman, the kid with the best marks, the doctor or pastors kid etc I told myself I would never smoke, I smoked. I told myself I would never drink, I started drinking. I told myself the same about hard drugs and so it goes on. Eventually I landed up with a syringe in my arm.
Loneliness
Slavery
The days with financial struggle and not being yourself because you are down and out. You feel you cannot be yourself without your drugs. Makes you feel dependant and weak.
Choose your friends carefully because the wrong friends may lead you to drugs. And also stay away from the places you know or have heard of where drugs are used or sold.
When days are dark friends are few. Always remember that drugs is the lazy way out. But in the end , you just lose everything. It is nice at the time but you lose your family and yourself in the end. Think about it.
Never cover your true emotions with addiction. It will change the way you think and live. Once the fun is over, you will have to deal with all the first problems and then all the additional problems with the years of drug abuse.

Advice to Parents from recovering addicts in a rehab

Never give up
Seek Professional help
Be informed , equipped and educated
DON’T blame yourself
Don’t be ashamed

Rivonia Primary

The response was absolutely overwhelming ! The teachers were very impressed and actually referred us to a few more schools. The learners were also awesome and it was their interest and interaction that made the mornings a huge success.
Beaulieu Prep School

This was a very interesting talk. The children were very concerned with people "spiking" their drinks and people
forcing people to take drugs. The sad reality is that although this is a problem. The biggest problem is that most children will freely choose to try experiement with drugs.
Montrose Primary School

What a great experience. The reception from the teachers and the leaners was outstanding. This school like most is
full of so much potential. The teachers are genuine and the children were an absolute blessing !! thank you.

MAD YOUTH DAY 09

MAD had its first day youth day at Refilwe. This ministry is surrounded by 10 informal settlements. Due to heavy rains the night before, most of the people were unfortunately not able to attend. The reason is that the storm had destroyed most of their houses and all the roads within their communities. This is the reality for many people in this country. In the end the day was still a huge success. Justin, Quintin and Christina shared their stories to the the foster children at Refilwe. The feedback was great and I know that on that day we planted good seeds into the future. Thank you to The Tribe for the sound equipment and Howard Green for all the logistics. And I would also like to thank Quintin and Christina for giving up their time and putting in so much effort. I am planning another youth day for 2010. I am hoping to get some bands, more speakers and possibly some corporate sponsorship, to make the day a wonderful family day for everyone. I hope to use these youth days to have a platform to spread the message of the true destruction and also the solution to drugs and addiction. The aim is to really educate the youth on addiction but to also make the day a wonderful expression of Gods love, mercy and grace.

Parktown Boys High School

Today MAD started the first of three seminars to Parktown Boys High. This was not an easy life story to tell as I attended Parktown. I did very well at sports, and also was head boy of the boarding school. But this is also where my seeds were planted that later became my addiction. The response was wonderful from the grade 8's and we ran out of time with the questions. The teachers gave great feedback and so we march on.

Friday August 21, 2009:

Fourways High School

Justin and Gareth spent the morning at Fourways high school doing the outreach program for MAD. Two separate groups of
500 in each. The experience was incredible and the response of the youth awesome. Their behaviour was impeccable and
their interest and questions just made the whole morning a great interactive learning experience. The teachers at this
school are the "real deal", they are truly determined to help the youth and also to do whatever they can to deter
the children from the path of destruction. It was a morning, that I will never ever forget and so I believe that we made a change. And thats just it, MAD is determined to try educate but also STOP people from walking in our shoes.

Crawford College
Today MAD did a presentation to the grade 10's at Crawford College. Graham shared his story on how it all began with smoking weed and how his drugs and addiction progressed. Justin then shared some stories and also gave his story. The audience were captivated and genuinely interested in what was said. Afterwards the question just came flooding in until the time ran out. We hope and believe that we made a difference today. And that the youth will think twice before choosing to pick up drugs. For MAD has living testimonies of the consequences. Well done Justin,Graham and Gareth.

Please be alert and aware of New drug in Schools - Strawberry Quick
Please pass this on even if you do not have kids in school. Parents should know about this killer drug. Grandparents, send it to your families and friends. This is a new drug known as 'strawberry quick '. There is a very scary thing going on in the schools right now that we all need to be aware of. There is a type of crystal meth going around that looks like strawberry pop rocks (the candy that sizzles and 'pops' in your mouth). It also smells like strawberry and it is being handed out to kids in school yards. They are calling it strawberry meth or strawberry quick. Kids are ingesting this thinking that it is candy and being rushed off to the hospital in dire condition. It also comes in chocolate, peanut butter, cola, cherry, grape and orange. Please instruct your children not to accept candy from strangers and even not to accept candy that looks like this from a friend (who may have been given it and believed it is candy) and to take any that they may have to a teacher, principal, etc. immediately. Pass this on to as many people as you can (even if they don't have kids) so that we can raise awareness and hopefully prevent any tragedies from occurring. Let's all educate KIDS against this....

Monday June 29, 2009:

Robin Hills Primary School 25th June 2009
200 pupils and 100 000 questions. The outreach was truly so inspiring and also overwhelming. Being so close to Windsor East ( a suburb struggling with drugs and addiction) the children were very aware and also concerned for themselves and their families. Justin And Bryden shared their life stories and pushed the message “ don’t follow in our footsteps” . Afterwards the children were so eager and had so many questions. The youth is important and needs guidance.

Thursday May 29, 2009:

Cub Scouts Talk
I would like to thank all the people that attended the drug education talk at the Fairland Cubscouts. I shared my life story and also shared some vital information on drugs and addiction. The parents and other family members were there and really took an interest in the presentation. The guys and girls asked lots of interesting questions and so made the whole evening great because of there enthusiasm and genuine concern for their own lives. I believe that we made a difference that evening and so I thank all those involved.

Mad at the elections
Some of the staff of Mad will be at various youth parties and voting stations during the elections. We have decided to use this opportunity to make the youth aware of drugs and addiction by handing out flyers, which will inform them on the subject. This is a project in conjunction with New Covenant Church (Randburg) headed up by Pastor Caleb who is also a member of the Mad team.

Outreach May 2009
Mad will be doing drug presentations at 2 schools in the month of May 2009. We have a team of young dedicated and inspired people who bring the message across. We will be using music, video and of course real life stories of those who have walked the walk and are still struggling with drug addiction.

Drug Education
We are in the process of drawing up dates and lists of people wishing to attend our Drug Education Seminars. If anyone is interested and wishes to find out more please contact Justin at justgreen@ananzimail.co.za

Life Stories
We are in the process of collecting various life stories of addicts and also stories by their friends and family. We are aware that addiction affects everyone and so all this information will be posted onto the website shortly and we hope that these stories may help others.
